Plate heat exchangers

What are plate heat exchangers?

A plate heat exchanger allows you to recover heat from a medium (e.g. water), by removing the heat and transferring it to another medium (e.g. gas).

The heat exchanger consists of corrugated plates, pressed together in a frame. One medium runs through the even channels, the other through the odd channels. The plates transfer the heat. They are closed by seals, or they may be brazed. This type of heat exchanger is often very compact because it transfers heat very efficiently.

When to use?

  • For which media: heat transfer between liquids and/or gases, often to transfer heat from water to water.

  • When should I use a sealed type? Plate heat exchangers with seals can withstand operating temperatures from -10 °C to 190 °C at operating pressures up to 25 bar. The particles in the media must not be too large (3-4 mm). Larger particles will require the use of a different type of exchanger – a tubular heat exchanger, for example.

  • When should I use a brazed type? This type of heat exchanger can withstand a temperature of -10 to 200 °C and a pressure of 30-40 bar. Brazed plate heat exchangers are more compact and cheaper compared to a sealed model, but are less easy to clean. The particle size is important with these types of heat exchanger as well to ensure the plates in the heat exchanger do not become clogged.

Which applications and sectors?

Typical applications: hydraulic separation, for example to protect a boiler and heating system against brackish water with metal particles, evaporation or condensation.

Why via TAS?

TAS will ensure you get a recommendation for the right plate heat exchanger very quickly. Precisely tailored to your project. It is best to fill this questionnaire in first. Our specialists will then immediately be able to work out which heat exchanger is most suitable for your application. You can choose from several brands.
